‘Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp’ (EAC), a three day extensive workshop targeted at nurturing and promoting entrepreneurship skills among youths of this region was held at Surendra Institute of Engineering and Management (SIEM), Siliguri, between 11th and 13th April 2016. The workshop was organised by SIEM, with ‘Department of Science & Technology’, Govt. of West Bengal, as the main sponsor of the event. There were eminent personalities from different walks of life who were major contributors to the workshop viz., Mrs. Snigdha Agarwal, Director, SIEM; Mr. Partha Guha, Entrepreneur-Natures Beyond, Faculty, Secretary-EHTTOA; Mr. Suman Kundu, Sr. Operations Manager, Tea Box; Mr. Amiya Kumar Kalidaha, Senior Scientific Officer, Government of West Bengal, Department of Science & Technology; Dr. Suprakash Roy, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Technical Education and Training (DTET), Govt. of West Bengal and Prof. (Dr.) A. Rameshkumar, Principal, SIEM, Siliguri. In the beginning session of the third day of EAC, the successful entrepreneurs, who were the resource persons of EAC, addressed about 100 aspiring participants from SIEM, Inspiria, Salesian Coellege, IIAS. Citing themselves as success stories in the most challenging field of entrepreneurship, they explained the significant aspects of entrepreneurship highlighting the scope and prospects in this area. “Entrepreneurship is all about passion, innovation and appetite for risk,” said Mr. Guha. “You dream, you have a passion, that is the differentiator to make you successful,” said Mr. Kundu. The participants had an interactive session with the delegates in which they were enlightened with the key to success in entrepreneurship. In the second session, the participants of Business Plan Project (B-Plan) Competition were awarded with the prizes. The participant from Inspiria won the B-Plan Project Competition for B-Plan “By-Loads”, while the participant from Salesian College was awarded with runners up prize for B-Plan “Kachra Paltan”. All the participants were awarded with certificates for attending the workshop. “Gaadi” and “Pheonix Customs” were a few of the interesting B-Plan projects presented before the esteemed juries. “Gaadi” was developed by Kunal Pareek, (Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, SIEM), which was based on the idea of on-demand transportation service. “Pheonix Customs” developed by Mrinal Pradhan and Akhilesh Chettri, (Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, SIEM), was based on the idea of customised vehicles, especially bikes.
